12/16/2007 - National honor overwhelms
Carroll assistant coach By Dave Long - Dayton Daily News - Carroll's
Darryl Jones was named the national high school assistant soccer coach
of the year Saturday. He was given the honor at the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America awards banquet during the group's
national convention in Indianapolis. Jones, a teacher in the Dayton
Public School system, has been at Carroll as an assistant for 11 years.
His reserve teams are 143-14-13, including three undefeated seasons.
"It's quite an honor and pretty overwhelming," he said. "I'm in a great
situation working with (Carroll head coach) Scott (Molfenter). He lets
me know what he wants me to do and lets me go. We've got great kids who
come from a strong feeder system and really understand the game." Jones
was a goalie for the University of Cincinnati. Before going to Carroll,
he was an assistant at Wayne, Northmont and Vandalia Butler, and head
coach at Belmont for 10 years.
12/28/2006 - At the December 2006
meeting the OSSCA Board approved a proposal which will merge the current
OSSCA website with that of High School Soccer Ohio, GASSCA, GCSSCA, and
MVSSCA. They established an OSSCA Website committee, appointing Gene
Pitstick, Dave Sebek, Sean Humensky and Bob Eakins to the committee
with John Scramling serving as liaison to the OSSCA board. The
committees goal is to eliminate the duplication of effort, and
centralize the information in one location. The major new features
of the merger for coaches will be easy data input to a single location
with the data being distributed to districts and media for the coaches
and simple access to scores, team and individual stats for all High
School soccer games in each district across the state of Ohio.
The merger will create an improved state website (OSSCA.org)
and optional sub-webs for each district. It will centralize the files
and data for the state web site and all district sites into one well
designed structure on a single web server selected by the Website
Committee. Current data from the OSSCA.org, HighSchoolSoccerOhio.com,
MVSSCA.org, GASSCA.org, and GCSSCA.com would be merged to create a
shared database. Placing all the sites physically on one (1) web server
will make data sharing very simple and manageable, and cost effective.
Work by the committee has been going on fast and
furious since the early December Board meeting to implement the new
state site early in 2007 and bring district sites online as they join
in. By Fall 2007 Ohio Soccer Coaches will have a new web structure
which combines the strengths of the 5 sites (OSSCA, High School Soccer
Ohio, GASSCA, GCSSCA, and MVSSCA) with some great new features.
Can you imagine scores and stats on every
High School Soccer game in Ohio on one website? Visit
OSSCA.org
often over the next few months and watch it happen!
