The breakthrough came from a Mike Reinhard header off a brian Murphy corner. Then brendan Murphy got on the end of a through ball and cut the ball wide before cooly chiping the keeper racing back to his goal. Kevin Malone then overlapped brian Murphy and served in a fiery cross which fooled the keeper and found its way into the net. The goal scoring was completed with just under 5minutes remaining. A brian Murphy corner bent its way into the penalty area before a goal keeping error saw the ball rebound into the net off the keeper's hands. 9/21 III Springfield Catholic Central (7-1) 4, I Beavercreek (7-2-1) 0 From newspaper report - 2 goals by Catrow 9/18 I Findlay (2-3-1) 0, I St. Francis (6-0-3) 2 St. Francis scored on 2 break-away opportunities. 9/21 I Findlay (2-4-1) 2 , I Worth. Actually the game was not reffed that poorly, I'm the one that got carded arguing for a bad throw-in. Findlay looked like a talented team that was not ready for Southview's intensity and immediate pressure on the ball. I have no doubt they are better than they played, but our system of play will frustrate you, thats why we use it. Any game can go either way, maybe next time it will go Findlay's. Good luck the rest of the season and into the playoffs. 10/01 II Rossford (?) 1, I Sylvania Southview (6-5-2) 1 I appologize for not knowing Rossford's record. II Alliance (8-4-3) 1 A good, aggressive, and well coached Alliance (District seeded) team gave a superb effort against Mooney before finally yielding 4 - 1 tonight. An early ribcage injury sidelined Mooney goalie Tim Reigrut early in the game and Alliance took atvantage to go up 1 - 0 early in the game. Re-grouping late in the first half, Mooney scored 3 goals within 10 minutes to take a 3 - 1 halftime advantage. The goals were by KiKi Willis, Alex Simon and Pat Walker with an assist by D.J. Myers. Walker scored a 2nd half goal off a Christo Frangopolis corner kick to finish the scoring. Substitute goalie Jake Sullivan and the Mooney defense were solid after surrendering the early goal. 1 Had a chance to pull stats off the game film here is what i came up with. Shots Findlay 27 - OG 14, Shots on goal Findlay 8 - OG 10, GK Saves Findlay (hanna) 9 - OG (Soph Kyle Metzger making second varsity start) 7, corner kicks Findlay 8 - OG 5, Fouls Findlay 12 - OG 8. Findlay's speed advantage was definately eveident however being biased and watching the film OG was able to create more dangerous scoring opps. I was very suprised that with Findlays superior skills that they don't keep the ball on the ground more. ie too much longball, makes it easier to defend. Seems if they played short passing/possession game they could methodically pick teams apart. Also, suprised by Findlay's impatience in shot selection. They settle for many 25-30 yard shots and very few of them were on goal. Findlay's first goal was a well struck ball from 22 yards out. OG equalizes just minutes into the second on a throw in (40 yards in the air) from twin Tim to twin Eric who chest trapped turned and shot Hannah just gets finger tips on the ball and Macke crashes far post to knock it in. The game game winner came on a PK, for a handball, that after watching the film shows should of been a play on as a Findlay forward ran through the play causing inadvertant handball. OG did not deserve a victory as Findlay controlled possession, however they played well and deserved a better outcome than losing on a PK like that. I think Findlay can do some damage in the tourney, if they shoot on goal. Good luck to Findlay! 10/8 III Newton (5-11) (5-4) 3, III National Trail (?) 0 1st Goal By Josh Fessler 3rd goal on the year (A) Mark Gibson 5th on the year, 2nd Goal Wyatt King 2nd goal on the year, 3rd Goal By Brandon Welbaum 1st on the year (A) Mark Gibson 6th on the year. 4th Shut-out game for Newton and our Defense. 10/10 III Newton (6-11) (6-4) 2, III Tri-County North (4-12)
