9/11 II Cardinal Mooney (7-0-0) 4, I Cloverleaf (5-3-0) 2
Bill Caventer

Junior Striker KiKi Willis got Mooney off to a fast start with 2 goals in the opening 12 minutes of the game as Mooney appeared to be off to their 24th straight win. In the 22 minute Cloverleaf scored on a Andy Skidmore free kick from 20 yd out but Mooney regained their 2 goal edge just 24 seconds later on a Zack Hernan from a Christo Frangopoulos lead pass. Mooney look confident and comfortable but at the 25 minute Willis went down with a leg injury and would be out for the balance of the game. Cloverleaf's Eric Pipa took advantage of Mooney's obvious concern for their injured striker and in the 26th minute brought Cloverleaf to within 1 goal. For the balance of the half and well into the second half an older, larger and stronger Cloverleaf kept up a relentless attack against the smaller Cards. Though in apparent disaray without their leader Mooneys young players hung on because of their speed and determination not to let the game slip away. With about 10 minutes to go it was apparent that they were gaining confidence and their attack freshened and broke through for their 4th goal as Frangopoulos again feed Hernan who worked for the open shot that sealed the win with 8 minutes remaining. Confidence regained by the score, the Cards controled the balance of the contest for the Cards 7th victory. Mooney will travel to Lakewood St. Edwards Saturday for an afternoon game with the status on Willis unsure as of now. Mooney goalie Jeff Seddon had 6 saves and Cloverleafs Ben Nida had 4.
