Two area soccer players have already worked their way into the state record books this week. Kayle Haney unofficially set an area single-game scoring record with seven goals in Newton's 11-0 defeat of Dixie. According to the OHSAA record book, the seven goals ties her for No. 5 on the all-time state list. Missy Gregg (Alter) and Cortney Bastain (Brookville) had the previous area record of six goals in a match.
Brian Connolly had six assists in Brookville's 19-0 win over National Trail. That tied him with several players at No. 2 in the state for most assists in a single game. He joins Brookville's Tony Ezerski, who had six in '02.
Individuals from area schools may have bettered those performances over the years, but their feats were not reported to the OHSAA to be added to the state records list.
