No. 3 Alter shuts out No. 1 Badin, 1-0  From the Dayton Daily News
2005-OCT-04

By the Dayton Daily News

Natalie Petrosino's goal with 22 minutes remaining was all Alter needed Monday as it defeated Hamilton Badin, 1-0, in a battle of girls state soccer powers.

Badin (8-3-2) was the No. 1 Division II team in the state soccer poll released Monday while Alter was No. 3 despite a 7-5 record.

"This was a real nice win for our team. It gives a lot of confidence to the 10 sophomores we have on the roster," said Alter coach Jason Balogh.

"Our regular season match with Badin the league (Girls Greater Catholic League Gray Division) have been real battles over the years.

"We tied last year in the regular season and we beat them in a shoot-out in the tournament. We play a tough schedule (13 of 16 games vs. Division I teams) and so does Badin.

The coaches around the state who vote in the poll know the caliber of competition we play and its reflected in the state voting."

Petrosino's goal came on assistant from Carly Mygrants, a midfielder. Mygrants got the ball on a counter attack at midfield and shot a through ball to Petrosino.

She ran on the ball at the 18-yard line, had two touches and fired a low shot from 12 yards out which got inside the far post.

Goalie Becca Ison and the defense made it stand up for Alter's seventh shut out of the season.
