JAMESTOWN | Greeneview senior striker Ryan Hartman fought all night to get his score. Shadowed by Springfield Catholic Central's Brennan Pedraza, he got few chances.
Then in the fifth minute of the first sudden death overtime period, Hartman found the back of the net for the biggest goal of the night in a 5-4 victory over the Irish in a Division III, Dayton 2 boys soccer district final.
It wasn't his prettiest goal — just a simple shot in traffic right in front of the net — but Hartman said it means more than any other.
"In order for us to advance, I needed to put that away," said Hartman, who scored 25 goals in the regular season. "If I had shanked that or blew that shot, who knows They might have countered. ... We had to take advantage of the opportunities when we had them."
The Rams (19-0 and No. 1 in the state) advance to the regional semifinals for the first time ever. They will play at Tuesday in Centerville against Oakwood, which beat Brookville 6-2 Thursday.v
