2005-NOV-08

By the Dayton Daily News

Columbus Bexley (17-1-3) vs. Carroll (20-1)

  • Division II

  • When: 7 p.m. today

  • Where: Dublin Coffman H.S.

  • Outlook: This is a rematch of the '03 state semifinals. Bexley won 3-2 after outscoring Carroll 7-6 in a shoot-out, then sudden-death shootout. The Lions won the state title. Bexley's high-powered offense has outscored tourney opponents 36-4. Carroll has outscored teams 27-4. "The biggest thing for this game is the turnaround," Carroll coach Scott Molfenter said of also playing Saturday. "It's such a short time to disect what worked and what didn't (from the regional final)."

  • Greeneview (21-0) vs. Worthington Christian (13-4-4)

  • Division III

  • When: 7 p.m. today

  • Where: Dublin Scioto H.S.

  • Outlook: Greeneview, ranked No. 1 in the final D-III state poll, makes its first appearance at state. It's the fourth for WC, and first since '03. Rams keeper Martin Ellis has 11 shutouts. The Rams have a potent offense but showed they can play defense by shutting down Fenwick. The Warriors have won four of five postseason games by three goals or more.
