Chris Rolfe, a former Fairmont High School and University of Dayton soccer star, is one of 30 players who will participate in U.S. Soccer's first training camp of 2006. Players will start practice Jan. 4 at Carson, Calif., as many try to earn spots on U.S. coach Bruce Arena's 23-man World Cup roster.
Rolfe, a forward for the Chicago Fire, was runner-up for Major League Soccer's rookie of the year award this season.
The 30-man training camp roster excludes most of the U.S. stars playing in Europe, many of whom are certain to make the World Cup team. Top players who will be at the training camp include Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Eddie Pope and youngster Freddy Adu.
